“Sarah, how well do you know your heart health?”

Hi my name is Sarah,
I’m 27 years old.
Happy. Life incredibly fulfilled between my son and what I believe to be a healthy active lifestyle working.
I was recently asked- how well I know my heart. Well, I have a huge heart! Hello!
“No- how well do you know your heart… health.”
Oh. Um. Hmm. I’ve never been asked that before.

In the 27 years I have been on this planet- I have never once thought about my heart health. Zero. Not once.
I’d like to say I am health conscious. I think I live a fairly healthy lifestyle. Though, I’ll admit, I thoroughly indulge in ALL foods. No restrictions. Chicken fried steak with EXTRA gravy is a favorite of mine. I am a routine Starbucks drive-thru customer and proudly have maintained my gold card status.
Day-to-day I feel good. No concerns.
Recently my dad shared with me he got his heart checked. For the first time, I realized this is a “thing”. People go and get their hearts checked once they hit a certain age. He also shared he has little bit of plaque in one of his arteries. Plaque? What is that? Concerning?
I did a little bit of googling around and I’m ready to dig deeper and find out for myself:

Questions:
How is my heart?
What exactly is heart disease and how does it happen?
Is heart disease genetic and if so, how far away am I from this disease?
Any stats of how many people have beginning stages and don’t know it?
Is age truly a factor?
What’s the best lifestyle to live for my heart?
How much of a risk is my son to heart disease?
What kind of preventive measures should I be taking?
How well do you know your heart health?
Well, this is something I’m willing to explore and document my mini journey on Instagram Story and uploading to my Facebook page. Part 1.
I learned I have a family history of heart problems and thankful I can find out ways to prevent while I’m young enough to make some changes if I need to.
